The computer
age has been with us for some years now and it has become
a principal teaching tool for the children, even starting
from the earliest years. The educational
software available now are designed mostly in the form
of games carrying teaching lessons at the same time. The children
learn the basic things in life while having fun in the games
they play, as play is about the only activity the kids do
most hours of the day.
While the computers and the Internet
has made communication throughout the world very much easier
and faster now, the problems of man are also changing fast
because of the effects of modern tools of civilization, like
the cars every body seems to aspire having, for faster means
of moving around. The use of these gasoline and diesel machines
have affected the world’s atmosphere negatively, resulting
in the recent worsening of global warming creating unusual
weather behavior now, like the floods on one hand, and extreme
droughts on the other, in different parts of the globe.
Global warming will even cause the
melting of the world’s ice caps in the North and South
Poles due to the rising temperatures not before experienced
before the advent of the cars and trucks burning fossil fuels
to power them. If the melting of the ice now in the polar
regions is left unchecked, the level of the seas and oceans
will rise as much as five meters now from present sea water
levels. That will change the face of the Earth physically
and lead to the occurrence of many more phenomena not yet
known to man.
If man was smart enough to have invented
the wheel and now the fast spreading cyber technology, he
should be smarter now to solve the new problems coming up
leading to the warming of world temperatures, and expectedly
the adverse effects this will have on the production of food,
and so on, worldwide. Predictions of food shortages are now
becoming a stark reality countries have to confront, otherwise
unrest of the globe’s populations will worsen.
What does this development to do
with the software industry? The first thing to change in the
light of these new global problems is the attitude of man,
while these problems are still manageable.
Attitude change is best possible, and fast, with education.
A re-education of man is called for with regard to these new
world phenomena, fast attainable with the appropriate kids
software, even those made for the young kids.
The software industry can come up
with new themes, in among others, the kids
computer games used at the same time as multigrade
educational programs for the children. An early understanding
and appreciation of the new world problems by the young now
can best prepare them for the coming years.
If these new problems will
remain unresolved during the terms of the current world leaders,
at least the future generations will be aware much ahead of
those times when they shall have grown up, and taken over
the leadership of nations. Educating them now through the
new educational software is one convenient way of preparing
them.
