Does the
software industry have out of the box thinkers now, to create
new concepts and ideas for the early education of our young?
Will they measure up to the new problems of the world, helping
in coming up with the needed out of the box solutions?
The present recessionary problem
we are facing has come to make people realize that some thinking
out of the box may now be necessary to solve the new problems
of the world. We are almost in the middle of 2008, and the
doubts in 2007 about how the economic situation then showing
signs of recession will turn out, remain unanswered.
Some people say that the world recession
now may have some comparison to the pre-World War II years,
when economic problems also prevailed, before the likes of
Hitler and Mussolini, dictatorial types of national leaders,
took advantage and plunge the world into that war.
Our leaders now in the 21st century
hopefully are more reasonable, to use diplomatic means to
overcome what confronts us now, like the global warming problem
and the food shortage problem likely to hit the entire world.
These huge problems are stark realities people can no longer
ignore, be they the affluent or the very poor of the world’s
population.
With the Internet and the many other
modern means of communication available at present, there
is no reason for the world not finding sensible solutions
to the problems. Maybe the world in the 1930’s and 1940’s
was in a more difficult situation because of the absence of
reliable communication means then, but that is not the case
right now.
Peoples from all nations can get
in touch with one another in seconds now. The challenge in
leadership of any country is more in out of the box thinking
from what has been the norm before these big world size problems
came about.
The software industry, doing much
of what the Internet contains, can take the forefront of this
out of the box effort to reshape the thinking of leaders in
confronting these huge problems of the entire world community.
The elementary
educational software they come up with computer
games, including those used for the early education of
children through the fun games they create, should start this
reshaping effort of attitudes, so relevant solutions can be
implemented versus these new world problems.
This is the challenge our software
for kids planners and makers must concentrate on. The
challenge of the job is formidable, but it is something doable.
Programmers and other IT professionals should take all efforts
to work closely with the people in the academic field who
are experts on how to get new concepts across to people, even
by just doing this through electronic means.
It will be a pity if the Internet
exposure of our kids now will just be in the endless games
without any educational content. Man’s thinking potential
will just be wasted away in fun while the problems of the
Earth remain unattended, and even getting more serious and
life-threatening.
